Dr Vincentia Reni Vitasurya successfully defended her dissertation paper entitled “Transformation of Javanese House Architecture in Omah Waris of Brayut Tourism Village Community – Yogyakarta”, at the doctoral promotion session of architecture and urban science at UNDIP. Sponsored by Prof. Dr. Ing. Ir. Gagoek Hardiman, as promoter and Dr. Ir. Suzanna Ratih Sari, MM, MA, as Copromotor, the woman who works as an architecture lecturer at Atmajaya University Yogyakarta has conducted her research in Brayut Tourism Village as the research locus. Her study was conducted by observing changes in the physical aspects of the house that were influenced by changes in the non-physical aspects of the transformation actors. Transformation is something that occurs in various fields of human life including architecture. According to him, traditional Javanese houses have been transformed into various variations to fulfil physical and psychological needs. Conditions that take place across generations are seen in Javanese houses that become inherited houses (omah waris). The factor causing the transformation of “omah waris” is the shift in mindset across generations of heirs. The heir’s relationship with “omah waris” can be described as a form of place attachment which in the transformation process experiences a scaled shift from strong to weak. Along with the development of tourism villages, the shift in meaning that underlies the weakening of relations can be strengthened again by providing new meanings that suit the needs of the younger generation. The meaning of the house as an asset with social and economic value in the form of homestays and tourist attractions can be a new form of bond that is attractive to the younger generation of inheritors. In front of the internal examiners, Dr Ir Titien Woro Murtini, MT, and Dr Ir Agung Budi Sardjono, MT, as well as Prof Ir Antariksa Sudikno, M.Eng, P.hD, as external examiners invited from Brawijaya University Malang, Reni succeeded in convincing the examiners that the uniqueness of this village can be used to find patterns and characteristics of the transformation of Javanese heritage houses in tourist villages that are unique and local. Thus, the Chairperson of the closed doctoral promotion session, Dr. Ir. Atiek Suprapti, MT, has declared that Vincentia Reni Vitasurya graduated cum laude as the 48th doctorate in the UNDIP Architecture and Urban Science Doctoral Programme.
